南宋时期，杭州灵隐寺住这一位疯癫和尚，人称济公，传说为罗汉转世。他本姓李，祖上乃宋太宗驸马。济公二十七岁出家，不戒酒肉，破衣拉撒，不知情者皆道其疯癫，却不知其实为得到高僧。济公济困扶危，惩治强梁，经常用一些诙谐的小法术教训那些欺压百姓、鱼肉乡民的奸佞恶霸。恶人提起他又恨又怕，百姓们则对济公师父爱戴有佳。
