故事的设定是在《绝命毒师》的6年前——2002年，讲述了索尔在遇见“老白”之前的故事，那时他的名字叫吉米·麦吉尔，还只是一个无名小律师，他头脑聪明、口齿伶俐，每每为自己客户争取最大化的利益。本应事业一帆风顺的他，却时运不济、财运不畅，蜷缩在美足沙龙一隅办公住宿两用的狭小空间。沉重的现实逼着他只能一边代表着法律做正义的事情，一边尝试着打擦边球为自己招揽油水更大的客户，本性善良的吉米转变为游走在法律边缘的无良律师索尔的过程。。In the 1860's American West, a minister and his family are traveling in a covered wagon when they hear a mysterious sound coming from the woods.
