在等待家人到来的过程中，山菊来到了无人管理的山村小学，成为了那里的老师。钟老汉和老伴双双病倒，山菊为了报恩决定照料他们康复再离开。在此过程中，山菊和学校的孩子们之间产生了真挚的感情，在她准备离开的那天，孩子和乡亲们的依依不舍感动了山菊，她决定就此留下。。
