EM1、EM2、EM3，这几个让人摸不清头脑的数字，实则是新加坡小学的分班制。EM1代表学习最优，EM2代表中等，而EM3则是垫底。小孩们被分到不同的班级，打上了聪明、中庸和笨蛋的标记。这让许多小孩都表示不满。其中，国斌、Terry、文福，这3位来自EM3的小孩则是反抗的最激烈的几个。三个小孩不但志同道合，而他们的家长也有有着这样那样的联系，但是都不怎么友好。
