Three friends decide to spend a wild weekend away from the usual routine but end up stumbling upon a satanic ritual.。Set in 1989, Jake (Harmon), an out-of-work photojournalist who struggles with addiction and a troubled past, takes a job as watchman of a wilderness lodge on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest, alongside veteran handyman Sparky (Granger). Jake sets up a darkroom to develop the photos he shoots, which begin to reveal disturbing premonitions of their future.。故事开始于墨西哥某荒郊野地，毒犯利用飞机空降毒品，两个墨西哥警探闻讯前来，正要逮捕毒犯之际，不幸被其直属长官陷害，而真正幕后首脑乃一美国人，美国政府为诱捕其入狱，遂胁迫一名走私大亨，令他作证指控贩毒首脑，并以免其刑责为交换条件，贩毒首脑因而入狱，而其妻对其丈夫因何入狱，尚蒙在鼓里，却毅然接管经营其夫庞大的事业。
故事的另一条主线则是大法官维克费特，受命负责主持反毒大计，讽刺的是他的亲生女儿卡洛琳却是个吸毒犯。当大法官在家中浴室内亲眼目睹卡洛琳吸毒的过程，当时真是令他痛心不已，也更加深了他反毒的决心。。
