郷ひろみの映画初主演作。遠藤周作の同名の青春小説を映画化。『愛と誠』以来、青春映画を撮り続けてきた山根成之監督がメガホンを取り、脚本をジェームス・三木が手がけた。郷ひろみが主題歌「さらば夏の光」を歌っている。共演は、女友達のハンバーガー・ショップ店員役に秋吉久美子が、大学浪人の親友役に川口厚がキャスティンされた。地方出身の貧しい青年が愛し始めた女友達を親友に譲ったことから、明るく生きながらも愛に苦しみ、人生の厳しさを知っていく姿が描かれる。。Procida, a little Island in the gulf of Naples.
